What this tool is for
This works out how old someone is on any date, in years, months and days, and says when the next birthday falls. Forms want an exact age on a particular day, and counting it by hand goes wrong around month ends and leap years, which is where most mistakes come from.
How to work out an age
- Enter the date of birth.
- Leave the second date as today, or set the date you need the age on.
- Read the age, and the days until the next birthday.
Questions
Are leap years handled properly?
Yes. The count follows the real calendar, so a 29 February birthday and any leap day in between are both treated correctly.
Can I work out an age on a date in the past?
Yes. Set the second date to whichever day you need, which is what a form asking for an age as at a given date is after.
Why does it show months and days rather than just years?
Because the exact figure matters when someone is close to a threshold, and for young children where age is usually given in months.
Is the date of birth I type stored?
No. The calculation happens in this browser tab and the date goes nowhere.
