What this tool is for
Resizing changes how many pixels across a picture is, which is what a site or a form means when it asks for something no wider than a set number. A photo straight off a phone is several thousand pixels wide, far more than a web page can use, and the file is heavy in proportion.
How to resize an image
- Add the picture you want to resize.
- Set the width you need. The height follows so the picture keeps its shape.
- Save the resized copy.
Questions
Will the picture look squashed?
No. Height moves with width so the proportions hold, which is why setting one of the two is usually enough.
Can I make a small picture bigger?
You can, but enlarging invents detail that was never captured, so the result looks soft. Going down in size is always cleaner than going up.
What is the difference between resizing and compressing?
Resizing changes the dimensions, so the picture is smaller on screen. Compressing keeps the dimensions and lowers the quality to save space. Doing both gives the lightest file.
